Story in brief
Aston Villa U23s took full control of Premier League Cup Group F after a solid away win at Derby County U23s.
Having thrashed Bristol City U23s 8-0 in their opening Cup encounter last month, the Young Lions looked to capitalise on the Rams and Plymouth drawing in the group's other maiden fixture.
And after Harvey Knibbs tapped home Callum O'Hare's impressive assist on 68 minutes, Villa sailed to a comfortable win that puts them five points clear at the top of their pool.
The only drawback on a satisfying night was an injury to Rushian Hepburn-Murphy, who was on the receiving end of a nasty tackle and was withdrawn – hence Knibbs' introduction.
The first-team coaching staff were out in their numbers once again to keep an eye on the next generation.
The combination of John Terry, Richard O'Kelly and new Goalkeeper Coach Neil Cutler were in attendance this time around.
Dean Smith and Sporting Director Jesus Garcia Pitarch had been in the stands for the previous three U23 matches.
A mixture of U23s and U18s will take on Stratford Town in the Birmingham Senior Cup in the international break.
After that, Villa go to Telford on Monday 26th November to face Wolverhampton Wanderers.
