CEO Christian Purslow described it as a “new direction” for the club as he introduced new Head Coach Dean Smith to the media.
He said: “Dean has a very recognisable football coaching philosophy. His motivation, energy and hunger to manage at highest level is an outstanding feature of Dean.
“We have responsible, intelligent long-term owners who've entrusted myself and Dean to do our jobs. It's now up to us to do them.”
It was time for that to begin as Smith took his first coaching session at Bodymoor Heath.
Smith was joined by coaches John Terry and Richard O’Kelly as they had their first chance to assess the squad they have at their disposal.
It certainly wasn’t a full quota of players, with many away on international duty.
But Smith and his staff will have been pleased to get out on the grass for the first time as they plot a very successful claret and blue future.
