Story in brief

Aston Villa U18s were undone by two early goals – and a lack of a clinical edge themselves – in the 3-0 home defeat to the Foxes.

Forward Will Russ opened the scoring on seven minutes before Justen Kranthove doubled the advantage two minutes later.

Those came after a couple of great opportunities from Indiana Vassilev, which he couldn’t take.

The claret and blues had more chances to get back into the game but ultimately were unable to make the breakthrough that would have made for a closer contest.

Sidnei Tavares put the game beyond doubt 10 minutes from time – with the home side pushing for a way back.

HughesNewFinishing touch

David Hughes described much of Villa’s build-up play as “excellent” but he bemoaned the lack of a finishing touch in the defeat to Leicester City.

The Foxes certainly found their scoring boots on the day but Hughes knows this result is just a blip for his side, who have started the campaign in fine form.

He said: “In truth, some of the approach play up to the penalty box was excellent, we just lacked the cutting edge.

“A challenging morning, but in spells we played some excellent football, but for the first time this season lacked conviction in front of goal.”

Upper echelons

We still find ourselves in a very respectable position in the U18 league table, despite the home Foxes loss.

It’s fourth spot with 12 points.

Ahead of us are Tottenham at No.1 with 19 points, Arsenal at No.2 with 18 points and Chelsea at No.3 with 16 points.

All teams have played seven games.

Next up

We take on table-toppers Tottenham away in our next U18s clash.

The game takes place on Saturday 20th October at the Tottenham Training Centre with a 12noon kick-off.
