Aston Villa U23s travel to Premier League 2 Division 2 leaders Blackburn Rovers on Monday night looking to cut the gap at the summit to four points.
Rovers currently sit top on 46 points, with Villa seven points behind and with a game in hand.
The claret and blues need victory to remain in the race for automatic promotion to Division 1 – which is only guaranteed to the club that finishes first after 22 rounds of matches.
Should Blackburn get the win, they will be promoted and move to an unassailable points total of 49.
The Young Lions have already secured a Play-Off spot, and will host a one-legged semi-final if they end the regular campaign inside the top three.
Third will host sixth and fourth will play fifth, with the two winners then making in through to the final. The team who finished higher in the regular season standings will then stage the showpiece.
Seven wins from seven have seen Kevin MacDonald's side stay in the promotion hunt and reach the semi-finals of the Premier League Cup, where they'll face Leicester City in the coming weeks.
Callum O'Hare and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy have hit the headlines in that time, scoring a host of goals between them to maintain the U23s' momentum.
The team have also been boosted by the return of Jordan Lyden in central midfield, following his long lay-off with an ankle injury.
Blackburn are also in decent form, having won five of their last seven outings. Their only defeat from that run came at Villa Park, when we triumphed 2-0 in the Premier League Cup last 16.
Kick-off is at 7pm at Rovers' Ewood Park ground.
Tickets are available on the gate for Villans wishing to make the trip north.
