Mile Jedinak has revealed the origin behind his name.
The 32-year-old, of Croatian descent, was born in Sydney as ‘Michael John Jedinak’ but is known as ‘Mile.’
In an interview for our DriveTime feature, available to view on our official YouTube channel, the Socceroos skipper explains how the nickname was given to him by his grandparents at a young age and has stuck ever since.
He said: “I was named ‘Michael John’ by my parents but being of a Croatian heritage and growing up with grandparents who didn’t really speak a lot of English, everyone called me ‘Mile.'
"I just went with it.
“In football I played for Croatian background clubs, I just stuck with it.
“Throughout school I was always ‘Michael,’ however, in the football world, it’s always been Mile.
“Now I’m just used to it.”
