Date: January 20, 2018
Competition: Sky Bet Championship
Venue: Villa Park
Weather: 1c, light rain
Hogan 5, 7
Scott Hogan took his goal haul to four in three games as Villa reeled off a fourth consecutive Championship win.
The striker was on target twice in the space of two minutes, with Conor Hourihane adding the third after Barnsley had pulled a goal back.
Hogan’s opening goal was a classic piece of opportunism, the striker prodding the ball inside the near post after Liam Lindsay had failed to cut out a right-wing cross from Ahmed Elmohamady.
And when Robert Snodgrass delivered a corner less than two minutes later, Hogan climbed highest inside a crowded goalmouth to head home number two.
Dimitri Cavare reduced the deficit with a powerful header but on 19 minutes Villa restored their two-goal advantage when Conor Hourihane stroked a left-foot shot into the corner following an inviting Jack Grealish pass.
Hogan was denied a hat-trick when his 51st-minute shot hit the angle following a superb build-up involving Grealish and Albert Adomah.
