Scoring summary

Analysis

Villa reeled off a fourth consecutive victory for the first time since December 2009, thanks to Jonathan Kodjia’s 18th goal of the season.

But Steve Bruce’s side, who have now won seven of their last eight Championship matches, had to withstand relentless pressure from an impressive QPR outfit.

Villa were in irrepressible mood at the outset, Albert Adomah hitting the post with a low left-foot shot before Kodjia made the early breakthrough.

A fine build-up ended with the striker moving onto Leandro Bacuna’s pass and unleashing an unstoppable right-foot drive from the edge of the penalty area.

Strangely, the goal provided more of a spur for the visitors, who were on op for the remainder of the opening period, even though their threat was restricted to a Yeni Ngbakoto shot that deflected for a corner.

It was a similar story after the break, with Villa coming under increasing pressure and sub Matt Smith sending a header just too high.

While Steve Bruce’s men were on the back foot for long periods, though, Nathan Baker was close to scoring when his 56th-minute effort was cleared off the line by Massimo Luongo.
